NCA Darfur Program is now seeking a Economic Empowerment & Livelihood Manager. The NCA Darfur Program is currently based in Zalingei and in this role, you will have frequent travel to Nyala. We are a multi-sector operation managed by NCA working jointly with local implementing and contracted partners. Since July 2004, NCA DP implemented activities in numerous locations across South and Central Darfur targeting IDPs, returnees, refuges and conflict affected host communities. The sectors covered are Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, Health and Nutrition, Education, Food security and Livelihoods sector and Emergency Preparedness / Response. The program reaches an average of 450,000 people each year with essential lifesaving humanitarian intervention. The Program maintained an average yearly budget of 5,000,000 USD.
The overall goal of the Economic Empowerment and Livelihood sector is building the resilience of households, communities and agro-ecosystems to anticipate, absorb and recover from the negative impacts of human-made and natural shocks. The core of this strategy is to economically empower households by focusing on improving food security and increasing access to livelihood opportunities.This will be achieved through diversification of livelihood opportunities, improve crops and land productivity and increasing access to market through skills and knowledge transfer, removal of market barriers and value addition to products. In this role you will be responsible for leadership, management and supervision of all aspects of the Darfur Economic Empowerment & Livelihood programming.
Job Description
- Responsible for the preparation of project documents, proposals and reports
- Ensuring the project operations, day to day management and delivery of the sector’s components through monitoring, recoring and reporting
- Oversee a team of field based staff in close collaboration with the Livelihoods Coordinator and partner organizations
- Work in close collaboration with other NCA sectors including: WASH, Health and Nutrition (H&N), EPRU, program support units, partners and with relevant government ministries
- Ensure inclusion of national partners and stakeholders into the planning, implementation, M&E process as well as identify partners staff capacity gaps and organize capacity building plans
- Coordinate existing program activities and capitalize on other similar interventions in the other sectors within the NCA DP
- Identification and synthesis of strategies for livelihoods options and priorities in Darfur, best practices and lessons learned for the proposed livelihoods program;
- Actively participate in the knowledge networks and take advantage of best practices and lessons learned that are available in the region on livelihoods programs;
- Budget responsibility
Qualifications
- A relevant university degree in agriculture development, economics, sociology or any other relevant qualification.
- At least 5 years of experience working on livelihoods projects for NGOs.
- Knowledge and experience of transitions from disaster/humanitarian/emergency management in to recovery, rehabilitation and resilience.
- Proficiency in participatory training techniques and other participatory methodologies is essential.
- Experience delivering training courses, mentoring and coaching as well as promote learning through a variety of approaches and work in a support role.
- Fluency in English, basic knowledge of Arabic an advantage.
