The Global Safety and Access Team provides advice to NCA senior management and support to country offices (COs) on safety and security matters. This includes designing and implementing policy, providing direct support to COs, designing, and delivering trainings, supporting humanitarian responses, and supporting incident & crisis management, amongst other things.
The team is focused on enabling NCA’s operations which meet our duty-of-care requirements and is a part of the Director of International Programmes staff.
The right person must be willing to spend approx. 60 percent of their time on the road, meaning majority of work hours will be spent in the field and moving between countries. Pay attention: The position will require travel to high-risk locations and countries. The right person will be asked to be amongst the first staff into high-risk locations. In addition, the position will deal with matters of life and death, especially around incident and crisis management, which can be very stressful.
This is a demanding position; provide relevant security analysis and recommendations to experienced field staff after a relatively short period of time in country will be a big part of the job.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate and track country office implementation of global Minimum Operating Safety and Security (MOSS) standards.
- Conduct/support threat/risk analysis on global/regional threats and issues.
- Maintain global safety and access sharepoints, GIS products, incident reporting system etc.
- Support the implementation of global safety projects, global digital tracking and international travel approval process.
- Support safety training as required, including organizing annual CO crisis management training.
- Lead SRM review process in absence of the GSM.
- MAIN TASKS
- Ensure that CO plans, SOPs and other security documents are to a high standard.
- Facilitate CO safety risk management reviews, including booking meetings, writing minutes etc.
- Develop specific global safety documents and policies as required.
- Develop and maintain filing system for GSU.
- Support international travel processes of staff including risk assessment and travel briefings.
Qualifications and experience
- Strong academic record in relevant area, e.g. international relations/peace studies/area studies etc.
- Experience in high risk contexts.
- Experience with NGO security/safety trainings
- Experience implementing digital tracking systems.
- Language Skills (Arabic/French).
Desirable Qualifications
- First Aid/Trauma First Aid Qualification (MIRA, FREC or similar).
- Crisis Management Training.
- Security Risk Assessment Training.
- Train-the-Trainer Qualification.
- Completed security risk analyses of NGO operations, including mitigation recommendations, then oversaw the implementation of those recommendations. (Similar experience in private or government sectors less desirable but potentially acceptable).
- Experience in crisis and incident management
- General understanding of the use of IT.
- French proficiency.
- Has experience delivering personal safety/security trainings.
- Has experience in delivering crisis management training and exercises.
Person Requirements:
- Highly organised and systematic.
- Good interpersonal skills, possibly including some instruction/teaching experience.
- Self-motivated and quick learner.
- Able to handle pressure and multiple deadlines/tasks.
- Willing to travel to high risk locations.
