NCA has a long history of presence in Sudan since 1972. Through this long-term commitment NCA has gained valuable credibility as a reliable and results-driven organization with an in-depth contextual understanding of Sudan, and with capacities for flexible and adaptive programming and thematic complementarity. NCA's 2020-2024 Country Strategy for Sudan has defined a nexus oriented and multi-sectoral integrated approach within long-term development, humanitarian response, and peace with a crosscutting approach towards strengthening civil society and building social cohesion. Since the outbreak of the war in Sudan in April 2023, there have been significant changes in the operating environment. While maintaining our thematic focus and core approaches, our geographical focus has shifted to areas that are currently accessible to NCA and national partners. A coordination office has been established in Port Sudan with a field office in Gedaref and with support to partners and their activities in White Nile, and South and North Kordofan.
NCA is seeking a Head of Sector for GBV. As our Head of Sector for GBV you will be overall responsible for NCA’s GBV prevention and response programming, including work with authorities, local communities, and faith actors to prevent GBV, including FGM, and CEFM. You will further invest in long-term development to address the root causes of GBV, as well as provide emergency assistance in humanitarian and conflict settings.
The successful candidate is expected to use their skills, knowledge, and experience in GBV programming in order to support the country program. The Head of Sector for GBV will report to the Head of Program for Sudan.
The duty station is Gedaref, Sudan, with extensive travel in Sudan. The contract is for 12 months with a possibility for extension. Please note that Sudan is classified as a high-risk area and is a non-family duty station. This position is advertised nationally and internationally. Terms and conditions will apply accordingly.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Overall sector, project, and personnel management of integrated GBV, and Protection activities, ensuring technically sound interventions and support, compliance, and accountability.
- Coordinate with relevant internal/external stakeholders and actors within GBV/protection, positioning NCA as key leading GBV prevention and response agency.
- Ensure quality and timely project reporting.
- Capacity building of staff and partners on i.e., GBViE programming, Psychological First Aid, Caring for Survivors.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with national partners.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social science, Public Health, Humanities, Gender Studies, Social Work, Nursing, Midwifery, Psychology, International Development, or similar educational background.
- Minimum of 5-8 years professional experience related to GBV and managing a multi-cultural team in conflict and post conflict settings.
- Professional experience related to GBV prevention and response, safeguarding, and protection programming in conflict and post conflict settings, with experience in Sudan highly desirable.
- Experience with developing and implementing GBV programmes, particularly monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience with working with civil society actors.
- Knowledge of international humanitarian standards, best practices, key international policy processes and frameworks related to GBV prevention, protection, and response.
- Solid experience in training and capacity building, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in and for training related to different components of GBV programming.
